Here at Modern Roots Acupuncture, we also offer a few select products. Unlike a lot of places, we only stock items that we personally use. This shows our faith in the effectiveness of each item. We also make sure to keep the pricing as low or lower than anywhere else. This is a thank you to our patients and it allows us to only offer the highest quality available (which can often be too expensive otherwise). Through this blog post and subsequent blog posts, we will discuss the uses of each of the items.
Each of our 15 items are divided onto five different tiles with different themes. The fourth theme is herbal teas. Teas and medicinal herb are an integral component to a holistic practice alongside acupuncture. We personally take herbal teas regularly and recommend the same for many patients.
Yogi Tea is a homemade nourishing and warming blend of organic herbs. Similar to a traditional Chai tea, we include cinnamon bark, cardamom pods, ginger root, cloves, and black pepper corns. We suggest mixing them into a large pot of boiling water (3 quarts) and cook for 20 minutes. It can then sit on the stove for the rest of the day or saved for later in the refrigerator. For a richer flavor, it can be made with milk or a milk alternative.
Cleansing Tea is an organic blend of Cumin seeds, Coriander seeds, and fennel seeds. This is a traditional ayurvedic digestive blend commonly known as CCF. It is made similar to other looseleaf teas by steeping in hot water from the kettle for 5-10 minutes. Cleansing tea is taken as a digestive stimulant useful for bloating, abdominal pain, appetite, and stomach discomfort. In other cultures, it is also used regularly as an overall health tonic.
Nourish the Mama by Urban Herbs is a blend of herbs to mixed in with bone broth. We suggest bone broth to many clients for it’s strengthening effects. It is especially helpful post surgery and postpartum. The high collagen concentration is also used for facial rejuvenation. The recipe we recommend is to cook an organic beef marrow bone and organic chicken bones (plus the organ packet if included) in a slow cooker on high for 15 hours. In the last hour, add this herbal packet to make the effects even stronger. According to Urban Herbs, it is “formulated upon a traditional recipe to invigorate and stabilize the body. It is indicated to strengthen the kidneys and provide vital energy.”
Custom Herbal Formulas are a great supplement to acupuncture treatments. Each formulation is unique and carefully selected for each patient. Dr. Rory and Megan each take their own custom herbs daily for different purposes. We have different blends for when we feel fatigued, stressed, or need an immune boost. We source our herbs from a company called Evergreen out of Taiwan. We feel the quality control from them is much better than herbs from China.
